They are here
They have found me
I know not how
It’s beyond possibility
My tracks have been covered with the greatest care taken
The perimeter has been set with no route forsaken
Rigged with trips and patrolled at all times
What had I missed, where had I left a sign?
To be located now, so surreal
It’s against the code; honour and survival
Secrecy was once the most natural task
In need of help which before has never been asked
I had identified the wanting
Now overcome with the yearning
A desperate need for encouragement, empathy and understanding
Doubting the extensive preparation
Making plans to embark upon the mission
That inert strength has now gone missing
I fear I have disclosed my true location
A vulnerable target always makes mistakes
Often the narrator to their own demise
Shamed severely by my actions
The trooper’s plight
Like a casualty
Turns hero
Into pity
Glory
Into lies
To be the lone
And to be feeling alone
Prior to the battle
The war has been won
Once fighting for truth, now fighting fatigue
Pre-emptive action; the cause I concede
And now I am surrounded, for they were here all along
The enemy’s within; orchestrating defeat; all of my own
